Another day, another big-name director signs up for a comic-book movie. This time around it’s Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch) who has been tapped to direct a live-action version of DC Comics’ Lobo—yup that’s the one about the alien intergalactic bounty hunter!
Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo was first published in 1983 in Omega Men. Variety reports that the movie version of the character will be a bad-ass, seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled antihero. He drives a powerful motorcyle and comes to Earth to hunt down four nasty fugitives. Of course, he meets a small-town teenager (no doubt, beautiful) who helps him on his mission.
Don Payne wrote the most recent script draftof the movie, which will be produced by Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona. The movie will reportedly have a tough and gruff tone (probably PG-13), much Ritchie’s earlier street crime movies.
