Lasseter Gets PGA Award

The Producers Guild of America has awarded John Lasseter, the chief creative officer for Pixar and Disney Animation, the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures.

Lasseter is the first animation producer to win the award, which recognizes the recipient’s entire body of work. Lasseter won a special achievement Oscar for 1994’s Toy Story, the first CG animated feature.

He has been an executive producer on most of Pixar’s animated features, including Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL•E and Up.

Since adding responsibility for Disney Animation, he also has been an executive producer on the features Bolt and the upcoming The Princess and the Frog.

The award will be presented at the PGA’s 21st annual awards ceremony, set for Jan. 24 at the Hollywood Paladium.

Lasseter previously was the 2002 co-recipient of the PGA’s first Vanguard Award in 2002.

“John Lasseter is a uniquely talented producer with the rare combination of technical ingenuity and creative vision,” said David Friendly and Laurence Mark, co-chairmen of the PGA Awards, in a release.
