Tying Your Own Shoes Wins Leipzig Doc Honor

Tying Your Own Shoes, an animated film directed by Shira Avni and produced by the National Film Board of Canada, won the Golden Dove Award for short film at the Leipzig Festival of Documentary and Animated film. The award was presented by the festival’s international jury for documentary films.

The film, an animated documentary about four adult artist’s with Down syndrome, receives a prize of €5,000 along with the award.

The winning films named by the international jury for animated films are:

• Golden Dove: Wings and Oars, by Vladimir Lesciov (Latvia)
• Silver Dove: Please Say Something, by David O’Reilly (Ireland)
• Best German Animated Film: Never Drive a Car When You're Dead, by Gregor Dashuber (Germany)
• Honorary Mentions: L'ondée (Rains), by David Coquard-Dassault (France, Canada); and Der Da Vinci Timecode (The Da Vinci Time Code), by Gil Alkabetz (Germany)
