DreamWorks Animation announced it will wrap up its signature movie franchise with Shrek Forever After, which will be the first film in the series made in 3-D
USA Today also reports audiences will get their first look at the film with a trailer set to debut in advance of James Cameron’s Avatar, which opens Dec. 18.
The film reportedly will see an overdomesticated Shrek struggle to regain his ogre-ness and, in the process, get a glimpse a la It’s a Wonderful Life of the world that might have been had he never been born.
In addition to the returning main cast of Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, the film will add new cast members Kathy Griffin and Kristin Schaal as ogre-hunting witches, and Mad Men’s Jon Hamm as an ogre heading up a resistance effort.
Shrek Forever After is set for release May 21.
