TBS has struck a deal with actor David Spade to develop an animated version of the 2001 comedy feature Joe Dirt.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the deal is for a pilot script, with Sony Pictures Television and Happy Madison Productions collaborating on the show.

The feature was co-written by and stars Spade, a former Saturday Night Live performer, as a hapless mullet-wearing hero. Spade, Fred Wolf and Donick Cary will serve as executive producers.

“David Spade is a hugely popular comic talent who has created a funny, yet lovable, character in Joe Dirt,” said Michael Wright, executive VP of programming for TBS. "We look forward to seeing how he and his fellow writers and producers take this character in new directions as TBS continues exploring the world of primetime animation."

Joe Dirt is TBS’s third animated project in development, joining Neighbors from Hell and Good and Evel.
