Nickelodeon Chalks Up More Chalkzone

Nickelodeon will kick off season two of the hit animated series ChalkZone on May 30 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). The show will move from Saturday afternoon to rejoin heavy hitters SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius in the channel’s Friday primetime lineup.

Chalkzone chronicles the adventures of kid cartoonist Rudy Tabootie’s (voiced by Rugrats’ E.G. Daily) who wields magical chalk and climbs through a portal in a blackboard to a realm filled with the likes of diabolical robots, mumbo-jumbo snakes and candy cane forests. The series chalked up Nick’s highest ratings ever among kids 2-11 for a premiere series when it debuted in March of 2002.

The season two opener, titled Hole in the Wall introduces a new villain in the form of Vinnie Raton (voiced by Rob Paulsen), a greedy developer who catches a glimpse of ChalkZone and resolves to turn it into a theme park.

Guest voices tapped for upcoming episodes include recording artists the Baha Men of “Who Let the Dogs Out?” fame. The group’s animated likeness will perform the song “The Coconut,” whose lyrics contain an antidote to the Smooch Bird’s strange spell in an episode titled The Smooch. Also, Tim Curry (The Wild Thornberrys, The Rocky Horror Picture Show) will lend his voice to the evil pumpkin-head rock star Jacko in a new Halloween special titled Pumpkin Love.

ChalkZone, created by Larry Huber and Bill Burnett, is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Huber and Burnett serve as exec. producers and writers, with Fred Seibert also exec. producing. The series will settle into a regular Friday, 9:30 p.m. timeslot beginning June 6.
