Capcom’s best-selling PlayStation 2 title, Onimusha, may be coming to a cineplex near you. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis Films and Gaga Prods. have signed a deal to make a $50 million live-action version of the samurai vs. demons video game created by Keiji Inafune.
The film take place in 16th-century Japan, where a young warrior must battle forces of darkness and the warlords who use them to rule the country.
Davis films and Gaga Prods., which will each have a 50% stake in the effects-laden production, are confident in the property’s potential to become a franchise. No writers or director are yet attached.
Gaga has also partnered with Los Angeles-based production/distribution company Crystal Sky to produce a film based on Namco’s Tekken series of fighting games for PlayStation 2.
