If you’ve been wondering how to break into the cool f/x universe, the Visual Effects Society has all the right answers for you. The organization is offering a special one-day event titled “Finding and Keeping a Job in Today’s Visual Effects Industry” on Saturday May 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Los Angeles Film School (6363 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028).
The day will feature four panel sessions each addressing employment issues specific to a particular segment within the Visual Effects Industry:
* Visual Effects for Feature Films hosted by Sony Pictures Imageworks
* Computer Animated Feature Films hosted by DreamWorks SKG
* Visual Effects in the Game Industry hosted by Electronic Arts
* Visual Effects for Broadcast, hosted by Rhythm & Hues
A fifth panel, moderated by recruiter/hring strategist and career coach Pamela Thompson, will address general issues such as hiring strategies, career growth, freelancing, independent studios (effects for ride films, commercials and television), and legal matters.
The participating companies will also be present to discuss current employment opportunities within their company. For more information, email Alan Chu in the Visual Effects Society office at alan@visualeffectssociety.com.
