Scooby Heads South of the Border

If straight-to-video is dead, no one told Warner Bros. Home Video. Following on from its surprise summer 2002 feature Scooby Doo hit, WHV is releasing the all-new, feature-length movie Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico on September 30. A mystery set in Mexico with mucho DVD special features, the film will available on DVD at a suggested retail price of just under $25. Odds are, it’ll be available for less. Big box retailers such as Target and Wal Mart often use straight-to-vid product as a low-priced come-ons at the check-out aisle. The vid flick follows Scooby-Doo and the gang as they head south of the border to solve the mysterious appearance of the Chupacabra – Mexico’s version of Big Foot.

In addition to a multimillion-dollar national marketing and advertising campaign, WHV plans to launch a big promotional push to support the release. Major U.S. brands such as Subway, Keebler and Georgia Pacific will offer consumers a $3 rebate off the purchase of any Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico video. Airheads and Equity will also feature Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico branding on various products.

DVD extras will include: Watch the Movie with the Gang, commentary by Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Fred. The Making of Monster of Mexico–a behind the scenes look. And there’ll be the usual bloopers, outtakes trailers and more.
