Top F/X House to Host Left Coast CGI-Fest

If you like a little more depth to your CGI explanations than the two-minute “How Did They Do That?” segments on Good Morning America, Dateline or Access Hollywood, Los Angeles-based effects house Rhythm & Hues thinks it has the answer. At two separate events–one in Los Angeles June 12th, the other in Emeryville, Calif. on June 21st R&H boffins are going to explain character creation and visual effects in depth.

Among other things, Jude Adamson (senior lighting technical director) and Anjelica Casillas (character development/producer) will explain the production pipeline and procedures used by the artists at Rhythm & Hues Studios to produce a wide range of recent Hollywood films (including Scooby-Doo, The Sum of All Fears, Men in Black 2, Daredevil and X-Men 2).

Among the topics on the agenda:

How do you make it look so real? Techniques for suspending audience disbelief and seamlessly blending CG character animation and visual f/x with live action (as seen in X-Men 2 and Daredevil).

Making CG Stars. A closer look at the creation of virtual leading players ranging from Coca-Cola’s Polar Bears to Babe, Cats & Dogs and Scooby-Doo.

What software packages do you use? An overview of the proprietary and off-the-shelf applications in use at the studio.

The Academy Award-winning studio is known worldwide for its high-end character animation and visual effects capabilities. In addition to the two speakers, a recruiter from Rhythm & Hues will be present to answer questions. For more info, go to www.rhythm.com/opportunities.
