Classic Game Goes Mobile

If you aren’t spending enough time disconnected from reality playing games on your PC or Mac, Handmark has announced another reason to keep you from actually getting any work done.

The Kansas City-based company is bringing the new Battleship game for Palm

Powered and Pocket PC handheld devices to the consumer marketplace early this fall.

With the addition of Battleship, Handmark adds another leading brand name to its expanding line of premier retail titles for handheld devices. For more than 40 years, Battleship has been one of the world’s best selling board games, with more than 36.5 million copies sold in the United States alone.

“We believe the game will be a great success in the PDA software market,” says Douglas Edwards, vice president of marketing for Handmark. “People loved playing Battleship growing up and now they can play anywhere at anytime on their handheld devices.”

Players can play the game against the computer or with friends using one or more handheld devices. The Palm OS and Pocket PC versions looks and sounds just like the classic interactive game, with high-resolution graphics and two modes of game-play.

Handmark produces the Palm OS and PocketPC versions of the Battleship game under a license agreement with Atari Interactive, Inc., formerly Infogrames Interactive, Inc., which publishes the electronic and interactive versions of Hasbro properties. “We’re very pleased to be working with Handmark to develop high-quality, branded entertainment content for the PDA platform,” says Jon Leach, vice president, licensing for Atari Interactive, Inc. “More than 16 million people currently use PDA devices, making this a logical step to expand both our brand and audience reach, while simultaneously offering = a value-added fun gaming experience to PDA consumers.”

Available at most retail chains where Palm Powered devices are sold this fall, Battleship will also be available as an online download from the Handmark web site www.Handmark.com.
