On a hot late-summer day, nothing is quite as enervating (or pungent) as the Earl’s Court Road subway station in London. This August, however, there’ll be at least three days when the west London burg’s tube stop and surrounding area has a shot at some excitement. From Monday, August 25 through the following Sunday, tens-of-thousands of rabid gamers from around the world will descend on Blighty for the Electronic Computer Trade Show.
ECTS 2003 will showcase the very latest in computer and video games hardware and software scheduled to hit retail outlets this Christmas. The trade show is the main attraction of a weeklong festival celebrating the world of computer games: London Games Week. In its 14th year, ECTS is the only place in Europe where you can preview all the Christmas hits and gaming technology set to launch in 2004.
Organizers say that more than 100 companies are lined up to show games across every format – PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, PC, Eye Toy and the yet-to-be-released N-Gage from Nokia. Companies attending in one form or another include Acclaim, Activision, Atari, ATI, BigBen, Capcom, Codemasters, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Intel, Konami, Microsoft Xbox, Midway, NVIDIA, Nokia, Sammy, Sega, Sony, THQ, Ubi Soft and Vivendi. As well as fighting for media attention, all of these companies will be vying to win one of 19 prestigious ECTS Awards presented Thursday, August 28.
