Talk about your global economy. Taipei? Dallas? It’s just a click away. Demonstrating continued support for the gaming community, Taiwan-based VIA Technologies Inc. is again a key sponsor of the this year’s QuakeCon LAN gaming convention, to be held in Dallas, Texas August 14-17.
“In its unfailing ability to attract the world’s top gamers, we found that there is no better place than QuakeCon to demonstrate our high performance PC solutions,” says Richard Brown, VIA’s associate VP of marketing. “With this year’s QuakeCon looking bigger and better than ever, it’s an event we just couldn’t afford to miss.”
QuakeCon began in 1996 as a LAN party dedicated to fans of id Software’s games, and has grown to include QUAKE, QUAKE II, QUAKE III Arena, QUAKE III: Team Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It was created by gamers to commune with online friends in real life, meet the makers of the games they use, talk shop with industry veterans and compete with the best players in the world. QuakeCon enjoys continued success, growing from a small gathering of 150 players in 1996 to more than 3,250 in 2002.
Showcasing its technology leadership in core logic design, VIA will demonstrate at QuakeCon its newest high-performance chipsets for the Intel Pentium 4 and the AMD Athlon and Opteron processor platforms.
VIA will also highlight its audio portfolio with support for the latest 24-bit, 8-channel content and leading 3D audio gaming performance, and will feature the ultra compact, highly integrated VIA EPIA Mini-ITX platform featuring an EPIA-based audio playstation, new small form factor cases from Casetronics and a special “mod” from the rapidly expanding community of Mini-ITX enthusiasts.
