Kim Possible Wins WIN Awards

Disney’s Kim Possible took home top honors for animated programming at the 2003 Women’s Image Network (WIN) awards ceremony Sunday, November 2 at the Culver Studios. The action/adventure/comedy series about a brainy teenage girl who’s more comfortable fighting crime than dealing with high school airs on Disney Channel and is part of ABC’s Saturday morning line-up.

Kim Possible was named Best Animated Series for 2003, beating out fellow nominees The Simpsons (Fox), King of the Hill (Fox), The Fairly OddParents (Nickelodeon), Clone High USA (MTV) and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (Cartoon Network). The award was presented to Walt Disney Television Animation, creators/executive producers Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, and director Chris Bailey for their work on the episode "Crush."

Dan Castellaneta won Best Actor in an Animated Series for his portrayal of Homer Simpson in the Simpsons installment "’Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky." Kathy Najimy was also honored for the role of Peggy Hill in the King of the Hill episode "Queasy Rider."

The first annual Kiera Chaplin Limelight award was presented to Vicky Jenson, co-director of DreamWorks’ animated blockbuster Shrek and the upcoming Shark Tale (formerly Sharkslayer). Actress Kiera Chaplin is the granddaughter of film legend Charlie Chaplin and great-grandaughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill.

The 2003 WIN Award for Lifetime Achievement went to film producer and philanthropist Lauren Shuler Donner. In addition to producing such notable films as X-Men, Bullworth, Dave, Maverick, Pretty In Pink, Free Willy and the upcoming Timeline, Shuler Donner has been honored by such organizations as Mikhail Gorbachev’s environmental organization, Global Green USA, Doctors Without Borders, Retinitis Pigmentosa and TreePeople.

Since 1993, Women’s Image Network (WIN) has produced the WIN Awards to honor entertainment industry icons and emerging artists who share WIN’s commitment to “foster a world where everyone WINs.”
