S4C Commissions Two Shorts from Blunt

Welsh-language broadcaster S4C has commissioned two short films from stop-motion studio Blunt Pictures. In preparation is the soup comedy Canned Heat and a Gulf War goof titled The Thwee Lancers.

Canned Heat refers to a bigoted can of tomato soup which rails against any soup can that isn’t exactly like him. The film is written and directed by David Sethi, who also makes and animates the models.

Gulf War veteran Jason Comley created The Thwee Lancers, which deals with a three-man tank crew stationed in a desert. While searching for weapons of mass destruction and refreshments, the trio is fooled by mirages of an ice-cream van and an ice-cream vendor who looks a bit like Saddam Hussein.

Based in Cardiff and best known for children’s series Hilltop Hospital and Meeow, the award-winning Blunt is the teen/adult division of Siriol Prods., creators of Superted. Blunt Pictures’ works with both established and upcoming talent, and is headed up by Siriol’s managing director Robin Lyons.
