Perhaps taking his inspiration from reality TV, Gallic actor-director-producer Alain Chabat has signed a six-figure deal with the Walt Disney Co. to produce a romantic comedy that’s part Average Joe and part Jules and Jim.
No director has been attached yet. But, according to a report in Daily Variety, the film is to be written by Emmy-winning writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (King of the Hill). The bare bones of the story finds a commitment-phobic superhero dumped by his girlfriend for an average schmo. When both men realize she’s the girl of their dreams, they become embroiled in a love triangle and comedy, hopefully, ensues.
Stateside, the film will be chaperoned by Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group senior vice-president of production Brad Epstein and creative exec Casey Wolfe.
Among other things, Chabat wrote and directed the $120 million French box office ani hit Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. His latest project, RRRrrrr!!!, a prehistoric comedy which he wrote, directed and produced through his French company Chez Wam and StudioCanal, is being released today in his home country.
