A brain hemorrhage claimed the life of visual effects artist Guy Hudson, whose credits include such milestone films as Alien, The Empire Strikes Back and Jurassic Park. He passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve at the age of 45.
Born and raised in London, Hudson moved to Northern California in 1987 to work for Chris Walas, who won an Oscar for his make-up effects on David Cornenberg’s remake of The Fly. In addition to his work at Chris Walas Inc. and Industrial Light & Magic, Hudson has lent his talents to Disney, Henson Prods. and Western Images.
To be closer to his family, Hudson returned to London in 2002 and joined Framestore CFC where he served as visual effects supervisor on the ABC series Dinotopia. He was working on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the time of his death.
Hudson is survived by his mother and stepfather, Josephine and Ron Wyatt; his sisters, Joanna and Harriet; a nephew and four nieces.
A memorial is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8 in San Francisco at Tosca Café/Bar, 242 Columbus Avenue. An online memorial is being hosted at www.sohopubs.com/guy/. The family has requested that any donations be made out to the Make A Wish Foundation.
