Nemo, Brother Bear Lead Annie Noms

ASIFA-Hollywood has announced the nominees for the 2003 Annie Awards, placing Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo in the lead with 12 nods including individual achievement categories. Disney’s Brother Bear is a close runner-up with eight nominations. The winners will be announced Feb. 7 at the annual awards ceremony at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, Calif.

In the category of Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature, Nemo and Brother Bear are up against Go Fish Pictures’ Millennium Actress, Sony Pictures Classics’ The Triplets of Belleville and Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes: Back In Action. On the television side, Nickelodeon’s My Life as a Teenage Robot from Frederator Inc. leads the pack with five nominations, including nods for directing, production design and voice acting. Cartoon Network’s Samurai Jack is close behind with four, including directing, character design and production design. It’s also up for Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Television Production, along with Cartoon Network’s Captain Sturdy from Renegade Animation, Nickelodeon’s The Fairly OddParents, Fox’s The Simpsons from Gracie Films and MTV’s Spider-Man Animated Series from Adelaide Prods.
