Anime distributors Manga Ent. and Bandai Ent. will jointly distribute the all-new Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series worldwide (except Asia). The 26 half-hour episodes will be released on DVD this summer, followed by a U.S. cable television broadcast.
Based on Masamune Shirows popular manga comic series and the hugely popular feature film, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex was co-produced by Manga and Bandai, along with Japanese animation house Production I.G. (Kill Bill, Blood the Last Vampire, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade). Set in the not too distant future, the show follows female cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi and her fellow police officers of Section 9 as they hunt down criminals in both the real world and the online world.
The series recently made its debut on Japanese television and will begin airing in the U.S. on Cartoon Network’s late night Adult Swim block later this year. The DVD release is scheduled to happen on June 27 and will be supported by a joint summer marketing campaign between Manga and Bandai.
DreamWorks indie distribution arm, Go Fish Pictures, will release Ghost in the Shell 2 in theaters this spring. For more information about the TV series, visit www.ghostintheshell.tv.
