Yes, oh yes! Whooooo Hoooooo! For years fans of Fox’s animated series The Simpsons have been wondering if and when Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie would make their feature film debut. Now it seems to be happening. According to Daily Variety, series creator Matt Groening and exec. producer James L. Brooks are actively developing a big-screen adventure for everybody’s favorite jaundiced TV family.
The Simpsons film reportedly entered the early development stage a few months ago when key writers were contracted. The list of past and present show scribes believed to be attached includes Al Jean, Mike Scully, Mike Reiss, David Mirkin and George Meyer. Incidently, Matt Warburton, who scripted the Emmy-winning episode "Three Gays of the Condo," won the Annie award for writing in an animated television production on Saturday night. No word yet if he or former Simpsons writer Conan O’Brien will be involved.
Reiss leaked the news of a Simpsons feature in an interview with DVDFantatic.com., saying it was something Fox has wanted to do since the show’s second season.
Fox and the producing team are not projecting a release date but the film is said to be at least two years away from completion. It may even be a vehicle for continuing the popular franchise after the series has ended its incredibly long run.
