Disney Polishing Aladdin for Oct. DVD

The Walt Disney Co. is apparently working hard to rub one of its animated classics the right way for a new DVD release. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is in the process of restoring the 1992 hit Aladdin for a double-disc debut in October. What’s more, Disney reportedly plans to give the release an even bigger marketing push than it gave Finding Nemo‘s home video premiere.

Aladdin will join Disney’s DVD Platinum Series, an exclusive club that includes only Snow White and The Lion King. Those two titles have sold a combined 18 million copies on DVD and VHS to date.

The two-disc Aladdin reissue, due out Oct. 5, will include the deleted song "Proud of Your Boy" by Academy Award-winning songwriters Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. The number will be accompanied by original pencil test drawings of a scene involving Aladdin’s mother.
