Peppa Pig Goes to Market, Makes Int’l Sales

Contender Entertainment Group (CEG) says its new preschool animated series, Peppa Pig, has sold in seven key international territories in less than four months. In addition, the show has been snapped up by broadcaster Five for a U.K. premiere on May 31 and Nick Jr. for broadcast in the U.K. later this year.

Following its MIP Junior debut in October, the 52×5 Peppa Pig has landed broadcast deals with ABC in Australia, Canal J in France, TV3 in New Zealand, NRK in Norway, Nickelodeon in Pan Scandinavia, C4U in Korea and SVT in Sweden.

Peppa Pig is the second production for CEG, which previously scored a hit with the CG series Tractor Tom. The new show is produced using CelAction 2D at the London studios of Mark Baker and Neville Astley, who jointly won the Best Television Series Award 2001 for the BBC animated production The Big Knights.

Peppa Pig is the story of a little pig whose adventures revolve around situations familiar to the 2-5-year-old audience, such as bath time, birthdays and helping parents with tasks. The first 14 episodes will air during Five’s Milkshake block daily (except Saturdays) at 8:30 a.m. The remaining 38 installments will begin running September 2004. Scheduling for Nick Jr. in the U.K. is yet to be announced.
