If yours is one of the three million households worldwide that tried out Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.s EyeToy since it debuted last year, youll soon have another reason to step in front of that little camera resting on top of your PlayStation 2 console. SCEA today announced that EyeToy: Groove, the second title to utilize the unique motion-tracking technology, will debut this spring.
EyeToy: Play, the first release for the EyeToy, includes a number of simple but fun games that require no controller but rather respond to the users movements by way of the camera, which also captures the players image and incorporates it into the game.
Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio, EyeToy: Groove is an interactive video game that enables players to dance in time with one of the 28 licensed songs from such artists as Elvis, Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Jamiroquai and Fatboy Slim.
The game offers single player and multi-player options. In Tournament Mode, players take turns to determine who has the best rhythm, reaction time and accuracy. Team Sync Mode allows friends to conquer the dance floor together and Battle Sync Mode has players dance together but be judged separately. In addition, since EyeToy provides a good workout, players can take advantage of the Calorie Counter to watch how many calories are danced away.
“We are pleased to announce the second title in the EyeToy family so soon after the highly successful EyeToy: Play launch,” says Ami Blaire, director of product marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America. “The interest and success of the EyeToy technology proves that consumers are looking for an active alternative to traditional forms of entertainment, and EyeToy: Groove is just another step in making the world of interactive entertainment a reality.”
EyeToy: Groove will be available exclusively for PlayStation 2 for the suggested retail price of $49.99 with the EyeToy USB camera or $29.99 without.
