DC Comics dark knight is getting yet another animated update for television. Warner Bros. Animation is producing The Batman, an all-new series for Kids’ WB! and Cartoon Network.
“Batman is one of animation’s most recognizable and most popular characters,” says Sander Schwartz, president of Warner Bros. Animation. “For decades, legions of fans throughout the world have enjoyed Batman comics, feature films, television series and made-for-video releases. The new series will continue this timeless tradition, while adding an exciting new interpretation that will appeal to current fans, as well as attract a whole new generation to the celebrated Batman franchise.”
This series picks up Batman’s story in year three, when the caped crusader is in his mid-twenties and just finding his way as a crime fighter. This younger Batman will confront updated takes on familiar foes, meeting each member of his classic Rogue’s Gallery for the first time. The show will feature a new range of experimental Bat gadgets and amped-up Batmobiles, as well as a theme song preformed by The Edge from the multi-Grammy Award-winning band U2.
The Batman is scheduled to launch on Kids WB! Saturday mornings this fall and roll out on Cartoon Network in early spring of 2005.
