Electronic Arts today announced that it will release a special limited-edition DVD featuring The Sims 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the best-selling PC game of all time. This first DVD release for the franchise will initially be available exclusively through pre-orders at major retailers. The Sims 2 is being developed by EA’s Maxis studio and will be available for PC under the EA GAMES brand by Sept. 17.
In The Sims 2, players will be able to control their Sims over an entire lifetime. Every choice that is made has a relevant and dramatic effect on the life of a Sim. The title also incorporates genetics so Sims can pass their DNA down through generations.
The Sims 2 special limited-edition DVD will include a full version of the game, as well as bonus content. Interviews with the games development team will offer secret gameplay strategies and the Film Making 101 feature will show gamers how to create their own movies like the in-game cinematics. Those animated sequences can also be viewed alone, complete with outtakes, in the Sims 2 Cinema mode. Also included are wallpapers, screenshots and a fansite creation kit.
The DVD will be available in North America only at the same price as the CD-ROM version.
The Sims franchise, which celebrated its fourth anniversary in February, has been translated into 17 different languages and has spawned a slew of top-selling expansion packs including The Sims: Livin’ Large, The Sims: House Party, The Sims: Hot Date, The Sims: Vacation, The Sims: Unleashed, The Sims: Superstar and The Sims: Makin’ Magic.
