Known for bringing such properties as Neon Genesis Evangelion, RahXephon, Robotech, Full Metal Panic!, Hello Kitty and Azumanga Daioh to American audiences, U.S. anime distributor ADV Films is set to debut its first feature-length animated production at San Diego Comic Con. Lady Death: The Motion Picture will have its world premiere on Friday, July 23, at 9 p.m. in room 5AB.
Based on Chaos! Comics popular character, Lady Death is set in 15th-Century Sweden, where a beautiful woman named Hope is accused of being the devils consort following a hellish incident witnessed by local villagers. As she is being burned at the stake, Hope accepts Lucifers offer of life in Hell over a hideously painful death. She later resists Lucifer’s scheme to corrupt a soul of pure innocence and eventually challenges him for control of Hell itself.
The screenplay was written by renowned writer Carl Macek, developer and story editor for Robotech; producer of the English-language version of Miyazaki’s classic My Neighbor Totoro; and producer and director of the English language version of Vampire Hunter D.
Lady Death creator and Chaos! Comics founder Brian Pulido will join the films director, Andrew Orjuela, and other members of the creative team to sign autographs and talk to fans at screening and at the ADV booth (#3628) at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Attendees who stop by the ADV booth can also receive a free Lady Death movie poster while supplies last.
There will also be a behind-the-scenes discussion panel with Orjuela, ADV senior marketing manager Rod Peters and others on Friday, July 23, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in room 9. In addition, Lady Death herself will be prowling the San Diego Convention Center.
