Corus Ent.’s Nelvana will sell its animated and live-action content through Amazon Unbox, the video download service of popular online retailer Amazon.com. Starting early summer, visitors will be able to download to own episodes of such shows as The Adventures of Tintin, Babar, Bob and Margaret and Di-Gata Defenders for $1.99.
‘We are very excited to partner with Amazon Unbox on this new initiative,’ says Nelvana president Doug Murphy. ‘We want to be a leader along with Amazon as we collectively pioneer the download-to-own business.’
Last September, Turner Broadcasting System and Amazon.com joined forces to make episodes of hit Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows available in the Unbox. Content currently available through the distribution deal include Cartoon Network’s Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Johnny Bravo, The PowerPuff Girls and Codename: Kids Next Door, and Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021.
Amazon’s Unbox also offers a number of other animated favorites, including Comedy Central’s South Park and Drawn Together, and Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer, Danny Phantom and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Also available for download are episodes of the Hanna-Barbera classics The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Huckleberry Hound, Jonny Quest and The Perils of Penelope Pitstop. You can access the Unbox at www.amazon.com/unbox.
