A raft of broadcasters at MIP-TV has picked up French studio Xilam’s canine comedy Rintindumb. The 2D-animated series, which debuted in September on France 3, has been licensed to Mediaset, Dutch kids TV channel Z@pp, TV5 and TeleQuebec Canada. The 75 90-second segments features (among others in the cast) Lucky Luke’s sidekick, the dumbest dog in the West.
‘Having launched the series at MIPCOM, we’re delighted to be returning to Cannes with a host of deals and widespread interest from buyers,’ says Ed Galton, Xilam’s executive VP of business development. ‘The show works on a number of levels. It’s based on a popular franchise, it has high production values, it appeals to a wide demographic and its short format makes it relatively easy to schedule.’
Created by Belgian artist Morris, Lucky Luke is one of the most popular and best-selling comic book series in continental Europe. The cowboy ‘known to shoot faster than his shadow’ has been the subject of several animated series and movies over there years. Morris drew Lucky Luke from 1947 until his death in 2001.The scripts of several of the Lucky Luke books were written by Frenchman Rene Goscinny, best known for Asterix.
