Stars Enlist in Disney’s G-Force

Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have signed Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan to lend their voices to the upcoming live-action/CG action-comedy G-Force, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bill Nighy from the Underworld films and Will Arnett of Arrested Development fame are also onboard as live-action components in the film, which marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winning visual effects guru Hoyt Yeatman.

Disney’s pic will revolve around a group of ultra-intelligent animals on a government mission to stop an evil billionaire from taking over the world. Cage will reportedly provide the voice of a mole named Speckles, while Buscemi plays as hamster named Bucky and Morgan’s distinctive voice goes to a guinea pig named Blaster. The animated characters will play alongside Nighy as an industrialist and Arnett as an FBI agent.

Yeatman, who earned his Oscar for James Cameron’s The Abyss and also picked up a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy, conceived the idea for G-Force with his son. Production has begun in Los Angeles with Bruckheimer producing. Bruckheimer Films’ Mike Stenson and Chad Oman serve as exec producers, along with Duncan Henderson.

The film’s title may cause some confusion since the very popular ’80s anime series Gatchaman aired as G-Force in a number of North American markets. Gatchaman is currently being revived as a CG feature by Imagi Studios, the Hong Kong-based animation company behind TMNT. The recent hit theatrical release that breathed new life into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise was directed by Kevin Munroe, who is also helming Gatchaman.
