In addition to this week’s launch of the Tuesday night Animidnight block on Starz Edge, the Starz premium cable network is raising its animation profile with a documentary on anime set to air next month. The monthly original series Starz Inside will feature Anime: Drawing a Revolution, a special premiering on Monday, Dec. 17 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
Starz Inside is hosted by film critic Richard Roeper from the Chicago Sun-Times, who also co-hosts the syndicated movie review show At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper. The Anime: Drawing a Revolution installment promises to offer a provocative, in-depth look at the art of Japanese animation and its influence on world culture and leading Hollywood filmmakers.
Animidnight is a new programming block that features a variety of anime productions every Tuesday at midnight on Starz Edge. The franchise launched on Nov. 6 with Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, and continues with the Nov. 13 world TV premiere of Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa. Desert Punk will have its world TV premiere on Nov. 20, with two new episodes debuting each week over the course of 12 weeks. Premieres set for 2008 include Hellsing Ultimatum and Black Lagoon.
