Peter Parker is back in spandex for all-new adventures as Kids’ WB! on The CW debuts the animated series The Spectacular Spider-Man on Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. (ET/PT). The network is hyping the broadcast day as ‘Spectacular Saturday’ as it airs the hour-long series finale of Emmy winner The Batman, plus and an all-new episode of Legion of Super Heroes.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Culver Ent., The Spectacular Spider-Man picks up Marvel Comics’ Spidey mythology at the beginning of his hero’s journey and finds a 16-year-old Peter Parker struggling with the pressures of teenage life while learning to handle his new-found powers and the various super-villains that threaten the city. The series will kick off with back-to-back episodes, starting with ‘Survival of the Fittest,’ in which the web slinger tangles with Vulture, a villain voiced by actor Robert England from the Nightmare on Elm Street films. Following at 10:30 a.m. is ‘Interactions,’ which chronicle’s Spider-Man’s first confrontation with Electro.
Following Spider-Man at 11 a.m. is an hour-long installment of The Batman titled Lost Heroes, which wraps up the series’ fifth and final season. The Joining has returned with some earthly villainous assistance to abduct Justice League members and transplant their powers into alien androids. It’s up to Batman, Robin and Green Arrow to help their super friends regain their powers and prevent an alien invasion. Written by Stan Berkowitz (Justice League: The New Frontier) and Alexx Van Dyne, the special also includes appearances by Green Lantern, Hawkman, Flash, Superman, Toyman, Mirror Master and Dr. Hugo Strange.
Legion of Super Heroes returns in a new timeslot at 9:30 a.m. with an all-new episode that examines the formation of the future corps of heroes. ‘In the Beginning’ has the young caped crusaders on a mission to rescue the Legion’s benefactor, R.J. Brande. In the process, they find themselves reminiscing about how the Legion was first created by Brande and founding members Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl.
