A big-screen adaptation of the popular Japanese video game King of the Fighters has a femme fatal in Hong Kong action star Maggie Q, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Recently seen in the Hollywood sequel Live Free or Die Hard and the ping pong farce Balls of Fury, the limber actress also lent her voice and likeness to the Electronic Arts video game Need for Speed: Undercover. She was actually the first film star to be featured in an EA title.
King of the Fighters is a live-action, English-language film being shot in Vancouver for roughly $12 million. Hong Kong filmmaker Gordon Chan is directing an international cast featuring Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Ray Park (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra), Will Yun Lee (Bionic Woman), and David Leitch (V for Vendetta). Leitch will aslo serve as the action choreographer.
Slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2009, the film is a co-production of Double Edge Ent. In Taiwan, Micott & Basara in Japan, Inferno Ent. in the U.S., Innoform Media in Singapore and Scion Films, Axis Ent. and Convergence Ent. in the U.K. Rights will be handled by Micott in Japan and South Korea, Innoform has n Singapore and Malaysia, and Inferno in the rest of the world. Sony Pictures has a first-look deal with Inferno for North American distribution.
