Newcomer Evan Daughtry has been hired to write a new draft of Grayskull, a live-action version of the classic Masters of the Universe cartoon show and toy line.
The writer, who earned the attention of producers by winning the Script Pimp screenplay contest, has only the unproduced stage play Shapnel to his credit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Warner Bros. and Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures are producing the feature, and sees the classic cartoon about He-Man’s battle with the evil Skeletor over the legendary Castle Grayskull as a gritty fantasy. A previous draft was written by Justin Marks.
John Stevenson, who co-directed Kung Fu Panda, is set to direct the film.
