15 Advance in VFX Oscars Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has narrowed to 15 the list of contenders for the Best Visual Effects Oscar.

The qualifying films are:

  • Alice in Wonderland
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
  • Clash of the Titans
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1
  • Hereafter
  • Inception
  • Iron Man 2
  • The Last Airbender
  • Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Scott Pilgrim vs the World
  • Shutter Island
  • The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
  • Tron: Legacy
  • Unstoppable
  • The visual effects branch of the academy will reduce the list in early January to seven contenders, all of which will be able present their work in the annual bake-off, set for Jan. 20.

    The nominees will be announced Jan. 25 and the winner Feb. 27 at the 83rd annual Academy Awards.
