France’s CNC film board has also given a tax rebate to two animated TV series: Russell and Frankie and Eureka.
Marseilles-based toon house Action Synthese is making the comedy Russell, produced by U.K.’s Parthenon Animation Prods. and Australia’s Stewart & Wall Entertainment. XD Prods., a Paris-based film-TV studio and high-tech company will pick up a rebate for Qatar skein Eureka, made for Pan-Arab edutainment service Al Jazeera Children’s Channel.
The Tax Rebate for Intl. Production, known as TRIP, has been up and running since December 2009. Gallic tax break coin for foreign shoots is applied at 20% of most production spend in France or with French toon or f/x houses, capped at €4 million ($5.2 million) per production.
After one full year of awards, tax rebates have been granted to 29 foreign productions for a total French expenditure north of $130 million. Much of that has gone to animated productions. Film France, Gaul’s national film commission, advises on applications.
