Officials in Sarasota County, Fla., approved Wednesday a grant of $1.75 million to the Ringling College of Art and Design to develop and build an on-campus post-production facility.
The school will use the grant to purchase equipment and remodel space at the college to accomodate the operation, which will be located on the first floor of the Ann and Alfred Goldstein Center.
Ringling president Larry Thompson told local media the addition of a post-production facility allows the college to build on its reputation as a top-flight animation and filmmaking school. He also said the school has brought in several veteran filmmakers to work with students.
Ringling is a private, not-for-profit college offering degrees in 14 disciplines and has nearly 1,300 students.
Funding the facility is part of the county’s overall strategy to make the community into a focal point for all aspects of film production.
