The Producer’s Guild may have added a twist to this year’s awards season narrative by giving its best picture honor to The King’s Speech instead of The Social Network. But when it came to animation, the honors followed in the footsteps of most other awards this year by giving the best animated feature honor to Toy Story 3.
The Disney-Pixar powerhouse — produced by Darla K. Anderson — beat out its two of its nearest awards rivals, Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me, and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.
Toy Story 3 also had been one of ten nominees for the best picture prize.
In another indication of the quality of animated feature films, none were nominated for this year’s Razzie Awards. The honors, which are given to the worst films and performances of the year, did go to town on The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan’s VFX-filled live-action adaptation of the animated TV series. The Razzies also lambasted The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Jonah Hex and Clash of the Titans.
The Razzies also added a new category, for the worst eye-gouging use of 3-D, nominating for the honor Cats & Dogs 2: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender, Nutcracker 3D and Saw 3D.
