Japan-China Co-Production Deal Yields ‘Train Hero’

TV Tokyo is teaming up with China’s Carloon Animation for a new CG-animated series called Train Hero, Variety reports.

The deal — the first of its kind for an Japanese company — calls for production of 26 episodes about a rescue team that handles disasters on worldwide network of high-speed trains.

Canadian comic book artist Pat Lee — whose publishing efforts have drawn criticism for their failure to pay artists — is designing characters. Total Production Office in Tokyo is handling production.

The series is set to debut April 26 in Japan and will roll out to China and other nations. It will be followed by a theatrical version for release in China in fall 2012 to coincide with the opening of a high-speed line between Beijing and Shanghai.
