High on this summer’s must-see list is Captain America: The First Avenger — and with the move coming out July 22 Marvel Studios has released a full-length trailer offering the first real look at Cap in action.

Captain America was created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon for Timely Comics, which published Captain America Comics #1 in 1941. Timely later became Marvel and the World War II hero was revived to join the modern Marvel Universe as a member of The Avengers. The character has previous appeared on-screen in a 1944 Republic serial, two live-action TV movies in the late 1970s, and a low-budget 1990 feature, in addition to guest appearances in many Marvel animated series.
Captain America: The First Avenger will tie in with Marvel’s Thor, due out in May, and the Iron Man franchise for The Avengers movie, directed by Joss Whedon and due out next summer. The film stars Chris Evans as Captain America and Hugo Weaving as the villainous Red Skull. It is directed by Joe Johnston and features visual effects from Double Negative, Matte World Digital, Fuel VFX, 4DMax, The Senate VFX, StereoD, Framestore, Lola VFX and Cinesite.
