Cartoon Movie has announced the winners of its annual tributes, with Despicable Me coming out on top in some France-centric results.
The tributes, presented in a ceremony hosted by Christophe Erbes, honored Pierre Coffin as Best European Director of the Year for co-directing Despicable Me. The other nominees were Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando for Chico & Rita; and Jesper Møller and Sinem Sakaoglu for The Sandman and the Lost Sand of Dreams.
Other awards were presented to: StudioCanal, as Best European Distributor of the Year, beating out 6 Sales of France and Gutek Film from Poland; and France 3 Cinema as Best European Producer of the Year, over Germany’s Constantin Film for Animals United and Denmark’s Copenhagen Bombaby.
Cartoon Movie, which this year was held in Lyon, France, featured 56 projects from 17 nations, including 12 in stereoscopic 3D. France was the most prolific nation with 24 projects, followed by Denmark and Spain with five each and the United Kingdom with four. Finland and Germany each had three projects, and Ireland had two.
