Anchor Bay Films has announced its acquisition of the animated Japanese film Redline. The deal includes all rights in North America, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand and will be released under the company’s Manga brand this fall. Bill Clark, president of Anchor Bay Entertainment, made the announcement.
Katsuhito Ishii—the director of The Taste of Tea, Shark Skin Man & Peach Hip Girl and the anime segment of Kill Bill—wrote the film, which was directed by Takeshi Koike (“World Record” segment of Animatrix) and animated in 2D at acclaimed Japanese studio MADHOUSE. The story centers on the largest, most deadly racing tournament in the universe, where JP—a reckless dare-devil driver—hopes to make his mark. Intense rival drivers, organized crime factions, militaristic governments and a dangerous love interest who all have a stake in the race blend into a stunningly rendered high-speed collision of action and intrigue which has received rave reviews during its spin on the festival circuit.
