Voltron is taking a shot at the big screen, with property owners World Event Productions giving Relativity Media an option for a live-action feature film.

The franchise, which debuted in 1984 as the animated series Voltron: Defender of the Universe,  has making a big comeback of late, with the classic 1980s TV series getting a new animated series and an upcoming DVD release.

The movie project came to Relativity from its deal with prodcuers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment, which will oversee the project.

The live-action film will be produced byRoven (The Dark Knight) and Suckle (The International), along with Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter (Wanted). World Events Productions’ Ted Koplar (Voltron Force) will executive produce. The script is being written by Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara).
