Blue Sky’s ‘Leafmen’, DreamWorks’ ‘Turbo’ Set for 2013

Two new animated projects have joined the summer 2013 slate, Variety reports. On May 17, Fox will present Leafmen, while Paramount is tagging in Turbo on July 19.

The latest from Blue Sky Studios, Leafmen will be directed by studio co-founder Chris Wedge (Robots, Ice Age). The toon is based on the book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs by William Joyce—whose children’s stories have also inspired the films Meet the Robinsons and Robots and TV’s Rolie Polie Olie—about a troop of bugs struggling to save their garden from an evil spider queen who turn to the mythical Leaf Men for help.

Turbo, from DreamWorks Animation, is the tale of a snail who dreams of becoming the fastest snail in the world, and sets out to make that dream a reality after a freak accident grants him super speed. David Soren (Merry Madagascar) is directing form a script he co-wrote with Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). Monsters vs. Aliens’ Lisa Stewart is producing, and Ryan Reynolds has been tapped to star as the slimy hero.
