Real Numbers Push ‘Smurfs’ to No. 2 Spot

Although on Monday, studios were projecting that Universal/DreamWorks’ Cowboys & Aliens and Sony Animation’s The Smurfs where sharing the Number One Spot at the box office this past weekend, the real numbers painted a different picture. According to Monday afternoon’s actual figures the little blue guys managed to bring in $35, 611, 637, while the Harrison Ford-Daniel Craig alien slugfest was the top b.o. draw with $36, 421, 290.

Peyo’s CG-animated creatures have nothing to be sad about as most analysts predict that The Smurfs will do much better in the long run for the rest of the month than the cowboy/alien mash-up. By the way, Harrison Ford was in fine form when he appeared on Conan O’Brien on Monday night. When O’Brien ribbed him about the performance of The Smurfs at the box office, he took it out on a Papa Smurf plush toy in grand Indiana Jones fashion!
