Cake Gets Slice of Zinkia’s ‘Pocoyo’

Kids’ and family entertainment specialist CAKE has been appointed as distributor for global content creator/brand manager Zinkia Entertainment’s award-winning series, Pocoyo. CAKE will oversee distribution for territories around the world, excluding Spain, Latin America, the U.S., Italy, China and Portugal, which will remain under Zinkia’s handling.

“CAKE is well-established in the market as a pre-eminent distributor of kids and family programming,” commented Maria Doolan, MD Brand and Business Development, Zinkia Entertainment. “Their talent in this arena drove the joint venture partnership between our two companies, which we announced in April this year, and naturally, we consider CAKE to be the ideal partner to spearhead and develop new markets and new opportunities for Pocoyo.”

Under the terms of the agreement, CAKE will handle TV and DVD rights for the entire Pocoyo library consisting of 156 seven-minute episodes, plus a 25-minute special. Pocoyo currently airs on networks in over 150 territories, including Nick Jr., Univision’s Paneta U and select PBS stations in the U.S.; Televisa (Mexico), TVE (Spain), RAI 2 (Italy), ABC (Australia), WowWow (Japan) and Nick Junior in France. The company will also debut the recently completed season three of Let’s Go Pocoyo (52 x 7) at MIPCOM next month.

Let’s Go Pocoyo encourages children to ‘learn through laughter’ while introducing a new, more stylized format and fresh content. Zinkia has created a multi-layered approach for the series with a dominant music theme, designed to appeal to a more media-savvy generation of 3- to 6-year olds. Themed adventures in each episode introduce new vocabulary and allow Pocoyo and friends to have fun with a range of topics like numbers, colors, shapes, animals and words—each episode ends with a musical journey that recaps the topics covered.

“With Zinkia’s brand management expertise, Pocoyo has become an iconic global kids’ brand, and we have no doubt that Let’s Go Pocoyo will duplicate and expand upon the success of the previous series,” commented Ed Galton, CAKE’s CCO and Managing Director. “We are proud to be adding this property to our catalogue and look forward to presenting it to our broadcast partners, who in turn will share it with millions of fans across the globe.”
