The nominations for the 39th Annual Annie Awards were unveiled this morning. Thanks to the healthy number of animated features released in 2011, ASIFA members will vote on ten titles in the animated Features race. Folimage’s A Cat in Paris, Perro Verde Films’ Arrugas (Wrinkles), Sony/Aardman’s Arthur Christmas, Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2, Chico & Rita, DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots, Paramount/Nick’s Rango, Fox/Blue Sky’s Rio and Paramount/Amblin’s The Adventures of Tintin are all running in the Best Feature category.
Overall, the nominations show a wide diversity of styles and are almost evenly spread out between different studios and indie work—certainly an improvement over previous editions where single studios dominated the field.
“We are really excited about the expanded list of nominations this year…in all 28 categories,” said Frank Gladstone, president, ASIFA-Hollywood. “All of the major animation studios are represented, as are some of the independent productions from Europe and South America. This certainly is a testament to the wide reach and appeal of animation and the people who create it.”
