Jessica Alba, Owen Wilson, Liev Schreiber and John Leguizamo are among the stars lending their voices to classic Disney animation in new installments of the short-form series A Poem Is… premiering during National Poetry Month (April 2-April 21) at 8:25 a.m. on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block for kids age 2-7. The series will also be presented on the new 24-hour Disney Junior channel on the same days. The actors, each a parent, will help introduce young viewers to the beauty of a poem, reciting works by poets such as Langston Hughes, Mary Ann Hoberman, Jack Prelutsky and May Swenson.
Previously announced A Poem Is… narrators include Viola Davis, Jennifer Garner, Laura Linney, Katie Holmes, Vanessa Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Caroline Kennedy, Kenneth Branagh and Alfred Molina.
Designed to cultivate fond memories of Disney classics for parents and create new ones for kids, A Poem Is… features poetry set to animation from some of the most beloved Disney films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty. The interstitial series also features an introduction by young children talking about what a poem is to them.
The series was created by Brian Hohlfeld and Steve Arenas. Hohlfeld (My Friends Tigger & Pooh, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie) serves as the executive producer.
