‘Madagascar 3' Rules the Box Office Again

The traveling Zoosters of DreamWorks’ Madagascar 3 showed some excellent staying power this weekend, landing at the No. 1 spot for the second week in a row. The third outing for the franchise brought in $10 million on Friday and was expected to end the weekend with a $36 million finish and a $120 million cume.

Ridley Scott’s much-talked-about Alien quasi-sequel Prometheus landed on the No. 2 spot again, with a weekend take of $20 million and a two-week take of $89.6 million. Also on the vfx-feature front, Snow White and the Huntsman was at No. 5 with a $13 million weekend ($121.6 cume), Men in Black 3 held on at No. 6 with  $9.8 million ($152.4 million cume), while The Avengers brought in $8.3 million and hit a $586.2 million total domestic jackpot.

The animated scene will certainly perk up next weekend when Brave, Disney/Pixar’s much-anticipated Scottish Princess movie, Brave opens nationwide. Fans can also catch Enrico Casarosa’s charming Oscar-nominated short La Luna which plays with the film.
