Prima Linea Embarks on Animated ‘Loulou’ Movie

French studio Prima Linea will produce a new 2D animated feature titled Loulou’s Secret, to be directed by first-time helmer Eric Omond. The pic is based on characters created by Gregoire Solotareff, who is also the project’s graphic artist and writer. Prima Linea’s 2012 feature Zarafa is playing at the Annecy Festival this week and will be released later by Gkids in the U.S. Prima Linea, which is headed by Christophe Jankovic and Valerie Schermann, will co-produce the movie with pubcaster France 3 Cinema and Belgium’s Araneo.

French distributor Diaphana has picked up theatrical and DVD rights to the movie, which has a 7.3 million euro ($9.1 million) budget.

The movie focuses on a young orphan wolf (Loulou) who sets out to look for his mother, along with his friend, a rabbit named Tom. The duo ends up at the Carne Festival in Wolfenberg, a meeting place for carnivorous animals. The character was also featured in the 2003 animated French movie Loulou et autres loups (Loulou and the Other Wolves), which was directed by Serge Elissalde (U).
