The high weekend temperatures translated to big box office numbers for audiences in the U.S. and all over the world this past weekend. Sony’s successful Amazing Spider-Man reboot proved to be the huge blockbuster that everyone expected, landing on the top spot with $140 million (during its six-day opening) and bringing in a total of $341.2 million worldwide.
Fox/Blue Sky’s fourth chapter in the Ice Age saga, Continental Drift, is also doing remarkably well at the international box office, making $80.6 million from 48 markets during its second weekend abroad (with a foreign total of $198 million). The 3-D prehistoric pirate extravaganza will open on Friday, July 13 in the U.S.
American audiences couldn’t get enough of Seth MacFarlane’s raunchy talking teddy-bear movie, Ted, which made $32.6 during its second week of release, making its 10-day domestic total more than $120.2 million (as well as delivering another $13.1 million in Australia and Taiwan).
Disney/Pixar’s Brave was the third most popular movie at the box office, adding another $20.2 million to its domestic take, making its cume $174.5 during its third weekend. DreamWorks’ Madagascar 3 continued to be a resilient player at No. 7 with $7.7 million ($196 million total) during its fifth weekend in theaters.
